I don’t know about you, but sometimes I panic when I get hungry. At the first twinge of hunger I immediately turn to food. Almost the very second I get the first rumble.

But what is wrong with hunger?

Hunger is the body’s way of asking for permission to burn fat so you should look forward to it.

You get hungry because your fuel has run out. Getting hungry indicates your metabolism is working on all cylinders and that is more than likely time to eat.

But consider this for a moment; is it actually ALMOST time to eat?

What if, every time you feel hungry you leave it for half an hour or so and give your body permission to burn fat, before tucking in to a meal.

Remember, there are different types of hunger and not all of them mean you need to eat straight away.

Honest hunger is that amazing feeling you get after exercise. I love the burn of honest hunger. Knowing that I have used up everything I have eaten and that my body is asking for fuel makes me truly appreciate my next meal.

Before eating think about what kind of hunger you are feeling. Learn to distinguish between honest hunger and boredom hunger, comfort hunger and sadness hunger.

If you are eating enough of the right kinds of food you should only be getting genuinely hungry around meal times.

If you never feel hunger it is because your metabolism has come to a standstill. In fat burning mode you will feel hungry. Just remember hunger is a good thing, you won't die from it so don't panic!

Do not starve yourself; this will stop your metabolism. Eat regularly, eat well and eat if you are hungry, just make sure you are and don't be afraid to burn a little fat first.
